Environmental Artist
Throughout his career, Mr. Washington has maintained an artistic eye focused on the environment.
While enduring a period of adversity, including homelessness. Mr. Washington remained filled with
the desire to be creative and to document his experience. Using the remnants of the clothing his
family wore, he created “The Blanket”; a sculpture that serves as a testimony and a monument to
the hundreds of thousands of homeless people across the nation, trapped in the vice of man’s
alienation from man.
This time period marked a cornerstone in his life that solidified Mr. Washington’s environmentally
artistic mentality. Artwork created by Charles Washington is a testament to the beauty that
surrounds us. It helps us see what we can create from recycled material, while making us aware
of our responsibility to protect our environment. His artwork reminds us that it is important for all of
us to be good stewards of our planet.
